The DCMA is actively seeking to enrich its collection through donations of objects, photographs and documents that demonstrate, explore and celebrate life in Dufferin county. It is part of our mandate to preserve and collect material pertaining to the history of Dufferin county. This includes municipal history, local businesses, geography, local religious and social organizations, and many more. Our objective is to depict life in the area through material culture. We are a county museum and archives, and therefore accept materials that relate to Dufferin county and its residents. To understand the diversity of people and cultures that have lived or currently live here, we also collect the material culture of residents’ ancestors.
Artifacts, documents and photographs may be donated to the DCMA by making an appointment to come in to the museum, by contacting us by phone, or by sending us a message by email. Be sure to include your name and contact information in your messages to us.
Please contact our Curator Sarah Robinson at: email@example.com
If you are donating a paper based object (photographs, archival documents, etc.) please contact the Archives: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are thinking of making a donation, we suggest you discuss it with our Curator or Archivist, who will help guide you through the process and provide information about any fees that would be involved.
Please note that in accordance with the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Code of Ethics for Museums, the Museum staff does not offer financial appraisals or valuations of objects to the general public. We suggest you contact the Art Dealers Association of Canada or the Canadian Antique Dealers Association.
Sponsor an Artifact
The Dufferin County Museum & Archives is excited to offer our supporters a new way to support our facility and reaffirm their commitment to the heritage of Dufferin county. The “Sponsor an Artifact Program” gives you the opportunity to sponsor or subsidize the acquisition of artifacts and archival materials that have been purchased to keep them in the community and in a public collection. Objects that are eligible range from $5.00 to $5000.00. Sponsoring an artifact helps the museum expand its collection and allows the sponsor to leave a permanent and meaningful legacy. It leaves a record of their support of our continuing work to preserve our history. Sponsors are acknowledged on labels and will receive an Income tax receipt for the amount sponsored.
