Archives Overview
Welcome researchers!
We offer a
variety of resources to assist researchers, including access to indexes, microfilm readers with printers,
photocopying services, and knowledgeable staff.
The Archives collection encompasses a range of materials relating to
all aspects of Dufferin's history. The collection includes more than 3000 archival
documents, more than 500 local history books, and approximately 3000 photographs, as well
as a wide range of reference books pertaining to Canadian antiques and artifacts, Canadian
history, local authors, education, area churches, and community organizations.
The Archives received an
Award of Merit from the
Ontario
Genealogical Society in 1999 for preserving and maintaining historic records of
the County of Dufferin and for providing public access to the records, thereby furthering
genealogical research in Ontario.
The use of all materials at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives
will adhere to the current Provincial and Federal Freedom of Information and Right to
Privacy Legislation.
Archives Hours of Operation
Tuesday to Friday: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The Archives are closed on Sunday and Monday. On occasions when the
Archivist or volunteers are unavailable, you may still visit the Reading Room and have
access to family files and microfilm facilities, on a self-help basis.
During
normal hours of operation, the Archives Service Desk is closed from 12:15
pm to 1 pm, however, the
Reading Room remains open.

Archives User Fees
Admission:
$5 Adults; $4 Seniors; $2 Students (5-14); Children under 5 are free
Admission prices include GST and includes museum admission.
Archives Services:
Photocopies $0.25 each
Microfilm printouts $0.25 each
Colour photocopies $1.00 each
The Archives offers research services at $25.00 per hour, plus the cost
of copies.
GST will be added to these charges and purchases.
Note:
Any photocopy that is made is to be used solely for the purpose of research or private
study. Any use of a copy for a purpose other than research or private study may require
the authorization of the copyright owner of the work in question. It is the researcher's
responsibility to seek the proper authorization.
