Property Research

In the last few years, property research in Dufferin has become a popular pursuit. In order to conduct a search on your property you must have your legal property description. If you live in the country this will be a Lot and Concession number, in addition to which half of the lot you are on. If you live in a village or town, you will need a Plan number, Block number and Lot number.

Using the legal description, the property may be located in the abstract book. Actual dates of homes are not always available, as assessment records indicate only the value of a property, not specific dates of buildings. However, the Abstract Title Books do allow you to discover when the land was first purchased and when values rose indicating the addition of building on the property. The Abstract Title Books also indicate past owners. This information may allow for an estimated date of construction for the buildings on the property.
