New Donations to the DCMA Collection

The Dufferin County Museum and Archives receives outstanding community support through donations of artifacts, archival material, and photographs relating to the history of Dufferin County.  Below are recent examples of new acquisitions to the DCMA's growing collection.  Contact us to find out more about the process and benefits of donating items to DCMA.

A210-204 Army helmet WWI, James C. Dodds, Mono, 1914 - 1918

WWI army helmet worn by John Calvin Dodds (Nov. 8, 1985 - Sept. 2, 1981), Mono, son of William John and Sarah Ann (Patterson) Dodds, Lot 7 Con 5 Mono, 1st Central Ontario Regiment.  He served in the 1st Central Regiment, 1st Dept Battalion.

A210-264-2 Honey Pail, McConnell Apiaries, Shelburne, ca 1960

A round tin honey pail.  Stamp added that reads, "McConnell Apiaries, Shelburne."  A family friend, Gordon Vandersluys, used to visit the donor's family and supplied honey, eggs, and potatoes, when needed, from the Dufferin area.

A209-271 Bracelet snake style, Simpson family, Orangeville, ca 1920

Lady's snake pattern bracelet from the Simpson family.  Margaret Ilene Mae (Simpson) Brown (1916 - 2006), who married Harry Arnold Brown (1915 - 2007).  They farmed in Orangeville and Amaranth.

Black & white photograph of Main St., Shelburne, looking from the north.  Shelburne was incorporated as a town in 1977.

A210-018 Apron, maid of William Jelly, Shelburne, ca 1890

Full-length white cotton maid's apron worn by the maid of William Jelly (1835 - 1900).  The great-niece of William Jelly, Charlotte "Edna" (Jelly) Weech, left a note on the apron stating, "Apron worn by maid of William Jelly (founder of Shelburne)."

AR-5450 Minutes Burns Presbyterian/United Church, Mono Centre, 1837

Framed copy of first minutes, Burns Presbyterian/United Church, Mono Centre dated 6 October 1837.  Presbyterian congregation was organized at Mono Centre in 1837.  It met in members' homes and occasionally in the schoolhouse.  In 1848, they built a church on the northwest corner, Lot 19, Con 3, EHS, Mono.  In 1923, a new red brick church was built in the heart of the village, which closed in 2010.
