January 21, 10 am - 4 pm Getting to an Abstract Painting with Didi GadjanskiVictoria Parks Community Centre, Mono Mills For many artists, the world of abstract painting is a mystery. How do you get from an image, a photograph or a drawing, to an abstract painting of the image. Come and spend a day with Didi Gadjanski and learn how to construct an abstract painting, how to get from an image to something that has visual coherence and is not just a random mess of colour. The workshop will be directed to construction of an abstract painting, what are the elements that you need to understand so that the painting has visual appeal, what is the thinking process, what are the steps and so on. There will be two demonstrations, both in acrylic, one based on a floral image and the other based on a landscape. However, the workshop is not restricted to painting with acrylics. There will be many opportunities for questions, as well as for painting, and critique and guidance from Didi. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for set up. Tea/coffee and snacks will be complimentary but please bring your own lunch (optionally your own coffee cup). Workshop Fees: 2011 Orangeville Art Group members: $50; Non-members: $70. Non-members may join the OAG at the workshop. For further information and to register, please contact Warren Galloway at wgalloway@rogers.com or 519-307-0210.
February 18, 10 am - 4 pm Landscapes in Watercolour with Jake MolVictoria Parks Community Centre, Mono Mills Spend a day with Jake Mol immersed in the world of painting in watercolour. Improve your skills. Paint landscapes, snow, water and waterfalls or buildings, any or all of them. The choice is yours. Jake paints all of them. Learn his techniques and approaches to the subject matter, take advantage of the skills he has learned painting plein air in many parts of Canada and how he applies those skills to a new painting. Jake will do an introduction, including discussion and a demonstration in watercolour. The rest of the day will be time to paint, with one-on-one guidance and comment from Jake. Workshop Fees: 2011 Orangeville Art Group members: $50; Non-members: $70. Non-members may join the OAG at the workshop. For further information and to register, please contact Warren Galloway at wgalloway@rogers.com or 519-307-0210.
March 10, 10 am - 4 pm Light and Movement in Paintings with John David Anderson Victoria Parks Community Centre, Mono Mills Spend a day with John David Anderson, who describes himself as a Canadian contemporary impressionist. To use his words, contemporary because he is alive and impressionist because that is a good description of his paintings. John David likes to paint alla prima (all in one session), perfect for a workshop, to keep the painting fresh, loose, colourful and gestural. Experience the character of the light and the compositions that flow from the pathway of light through a space. John David paints tonally with rich colour and an impressionist character. He is not driven by the subject but by the light. Learn how to convey movement. Learn how to use fluctuating emphasis of light and shadow along with the use of hard and soft edges to enhance movement. The demonstrations will be conducted using oil paints. However, participants may bring the painting medium of their choice. John David paints in both oils and acrylics. Workshop Fees: 2011 Orangeville Art Group members: $50; Non-members: $70. Non-members may join the OAG at the workshop. For further information and to register, please contact Warren Galloway at wgalloway@rogers.com or 519-307-0210.
