Wednesday, July 11, 18 or 25, 9am to 4pm

To support and coincide with the DCMA’s main 2012 exhibit, Beauty in the Beast - Animals as Objects and Art, a special summer youth program has been designed for kids ages 8 to 12. Using the over 1,500 animals in the exhibit used on historical artifacts and art as inspiration, kids will study the relationship of humans with wild and domesticated animals through two centuries. The collection has a strong Canadian content and features the artistic works of many Canadian contemporary artists and Canadian folk art. A hands-on component, the use of historic literature and a “take home” project will assist the participants in understanding the animal kingdom. They will be able to discuss the dependence on animals for food, pets and other aspects of our Canadian way of life. Many pioneer methods will be demonstrated.

Cost: $25 per participant, plus HST. Pre-registration required. Snacks will be provided, but please bring your own lunch and dress according to weather conditions.
