We recommend at least 1 hour to view all the galleries, but we welcome you to take your time and stay longer as there is lots to explore and do.
The Museum is equipped with an accessible entrance door and elevator. All galleries are wheelchair accessible, with the exceptions of the 2nd storey of the 1881 Dufferin House, and Crombie’s Train Station. These historic buildings have tablets located outside their entrances which provide images and information about the buildings to assist people who cannot enter explore the space.

Some spaces are marked as “permanent” exhibitions, such as our Cornflower Gallery and Main Gallery and these will typically get updated every 10 years.
Temporary exhibits under our mezzanine change about once a year while the Silo Gallery changes about 3-4 times per year. Check out our exhibits and art shows page for details, dates, and locations.
Objects on display are often changed and may not be back in the galleries for some time, however, the Curator or Curatorial Assistant may be able to answer questions you have about objects in the collection.
The Museum’s collection is far too large to exhibit all at one time. Objects are rotated to show the largest number, and to prevent fragile items from being damaged.
The Museum houses over 48,000 objects, archival records, and photographs and that number changes every year as we add new items to our collection.
Yes, however, we ask that visitors refrain from taking photographs of artwork displayed in galleries and art shows.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a peanut-free facility. To help minimize risk of exposure for persons with peanut allergies, we encourage visitors to avoid bringing food containing peanuts into the museum.
We kindly ask visitors to refrain from wearing scents or fragrances such as perfumes that can cause allergic reactions.
All service animals are welcome in the museum. Pets may visit provided they are kept on a leash or in a carrier, are clean, vaccinated, free of disease and behavioural problems, and are not disruptive to the visitor experience. The visitor bringing the pet is responsible for it during the visit. We ask that pets do not attend programs and events where food and beverages are served.
Yes, the MoD maintains a small gift shop of local and branded products, including W.J. Hughes Corn Flower.
The Museum has a vending machine with some snacks and drinks on site and visitors are welcome to bring their own food in the designated areas. During the winter months, visitors are able to use the Silo Gallery, located on the 4th floor, as an eating space with bistro tables and seating.
In the warmer months, we have many picnic tables throughout our grounds where you can enjoy snacks or food.
We kindly ask visitors to refrain from eating in exhibit galleries. We are happy to recommend restaurants and shops nearby or in the area.
